Topic: The Enemy Within

Speaker: Rev. Karyn Marsh

After a pitched naval battle during the War of 1812, American commander Oliver Perry sent a dispatch to Major General William Henry Harrison: “We have met the enemy, and they are ours.” What Perry meant was that they had won the battle, but the phrase has evolved over the last two centuries to mean that we are our own worst enemies. It may be, however, that both meanings are true. During this service, Rev. Karyn Marsh will explore how meeting the so-called enemy within can actually transform our communities and our lives.
