SHARED COMMUNITY MINISTRY WITH CHANNING MEMORIAL UU CHURCH IN ELLICOTT CITY, MD
Circle Singing in a Pandemic – with Amado O. and Paris K. of VoiceExchange
This Sunday we journey with the members of VoiceExchange as they share their adventures with circle singing during a pandemic. What challenges did they face? How did they overcome the obstacles? What gifts and surprises emerged? This interactive service will give you the chance to sing along from home—much of the time on Mute, with some invitations to participate off-Mute.
Amado Ohland is a Jazz and Blues vocalist currently writing his dissertation toward a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition. Paris Kern is a Folk musician with experience singing in Folk clubs throughout the British Isles. In August, both will celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first introduction to Circlesinging at a Bobby McFerrin workshop at the Omega Center in Rhinebeck, NY. They are two of the founding members of VoiceExchange, an improvisatory vocal ensemble that also includes Beth Lyons and Dina Torok. The group has run a successful and growing monthly community-singing event since 2013 and has led several summer services in the UU community—including here at both Channing and Cedarhurst.
“Sundays After”
From Channing Memorial: After service this Sunday we will have an additional small group breakout room that we at Channing call “Sundays After” — an opportunity to reflect on the service and any thoughts or emotions it brought up. For today’s “Sundays After,” our leaders Amado and Paris will host the discussion, seeking community feedback as you notice your experience with today’s Circlesinging.
Please note that we will be using a different Zoom meeting for this service, listed below:
